JOB TITLE: Kiln Team Lead

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Rookwood Pottery Company’s Kiln Team Lead is responsible for the oversight and team management of the set up and kiln operations processes for the facility.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete all job duties within job description as assigned and within an acceptable range of performance.
  • Meeting deadlines as assigned.
  • Load and unload kiln in a manner that effectively utilizes space.
  • Assign daily tasks for kiln department team members, indicating priority items and down time duties, and setting deadlines for completion.
  • Facilitate cross-training of team members within closely-related departments (i.e. Glaze and QC departments).
  • Update kiln firing log daily and maintenance log as needed.
  • Use information gathered from firing log and cone packs to adjust kiln programs to ensure all zones are firing evenly and consistently.
  • Ensure all kilns and other equipment in department is operating on an optimal level by performing routine maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Enforcement of company policies and procedures, i.e. team members’ cell phone usage, attendance/tardiness, PPE, etc.
  • Proactively and efficiently communicate to all employees in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Facilitation of a clean and organized department through the 5S program.
  • Development and ongoing refinement of policies and procedures as they apply to the department.
  • Facilitation of ongoing training and development of team members within the department
  • Identify areas for process improvement within the department and trial out new procedures.
  • Consistently check paperwork to confirm the product matches the work order.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure a quality product is being produced.
  • Troubleshoot and correct faulty programming.
  • Follow all safety rules and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 plus years of Kiln Operator or equivalent experience.
  • Capable of leading a team by policy and through example.
  • Must be able to be on your feet 8 hours a day and lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Frequent bending over and reaching above your head.
  • Work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Ability to recognize problems and have them corrected immediately.
  • Commitment to a safe workplace.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for quality and timeliness of work.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Rookwood Pottery Company’s Quality Control Team Lead is responsible for the oversight and team management of the quality control department for the facility.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set departmental standards for objectively determining if product meets Quality Standards.
  • Ensure daily production schedules are followed and production goals are met.
  • Maximize department productivity by multitasking between clerical work, management of team members, and performing departmental tasks.
  • Enforcement of company policies and procedures, i.e. team members’ cell phone usage, attendance/tardiness, PPE, etc.
  • Complete all individual training and facilitate cross-training for department members and non-department members.
  • Delegation of tasks and projects to team members and set deadlines for completion.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure a quality product is being produced.
  • Perform and enforce routine maintenance on all machinery and equipment including but not limited to: grinding wheel, foam machine, pallet wrap machine, etc.
  • Identify areas for process improvement within the department and trial out new procedures.
  • Proactively and efficiently communicate to all employees in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Facilitation of a clean and organized department through the 5S program.
  • Maintain an up-to-date version of the department’s Tolerance Manual.
  • Pack and ship product via freight, City Dash, UPS or FedEx.
  • Send EOD report to update production, sales and retail.
  • Apply finishing touches to products as necessary, such as: filling art pottery with sand and plaster, finish candles by adding wax, fragrance and wicks, adding ribbon or hardware to ornaments, etc.
  • Manage overage stock.
  • Manage web orders through Shopify and Shipstation.
  • Monitor Finished Goods product inventory and restock as necessary.
  • Establish inventory par levels of all department-related supplies and reorder as necessary: boxes, romance cards, packing materials, sand, wax, fragrance, ribbon, and ornament hooks.
  • Photo-document new glazes on various product for retail division.
  • WIP completed orders to Finished Goods in Global Shop.
  • Cycle count 4 to 8 times per month, depending on item; track counts somewhere in GSS and submit to Floor Supervisor.
  • Act as a liaison between sales department and production on retail orders and 3rd party products.
