Kiln / QC Team Member
Rookwood production is about working as a team to produce our handmade tile and pottery product efficiently and accurately and to complete all customer job orders as quickly as possible.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Perform essential departmental tasks, including cleaning, loading, unloading, and inspecting tile and pottery to determine whether the product meets established quality standards following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
· Record all rejected product accurately in Global Shop using appropriate scrap codes
· Meet productivity goals and complete daily production schedules
· Operate departmental machinery, such as tile wiper, LAP grinder and pallet wrap scale safely and effectively
· Operate and select appropriate programs for electric and gas kilns depending on the glazes and product loaded within them
· Perform routine maintenance on kilns and other equipment as directed by Team Lead
· Apply finishing touches to products as necessary, including but not limited to: adding sand and plaster to figurines, filling candle vessels with wax, and adding ribbon or hardware to ornaments
· Accurately fill out pick lists, boxing logs and box labels when packaging customer orders
· Assist in shipping and handling of completed customer orders as necessary: deliver customer pick up orders to shelves outside of dock doors or prepare orders for shipment via UPS or Freight
· Assist sales team in the management and oversight of tile overage inventory
· Actively participate in cross-training outside the Kiln/QC department and assist team lead in cross-training other team members as necessary
· Maintain a clean workspace and perform general departmental housekeeping duties
· Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure a quality product is being produced
· Other duties as assigned
EXPECTATIONS:
· Practice correct safety practices always
· Ensure all customer and stock orders are completed and delivered on or before due date
· Assist Team Lead in maintaining an up-to-date version of the department’s Tolerance Manual
· Become proficient in logging kiln TempChek tabs, and adjusting kiln programming as necessary
· Become proficient in usage of UPS and Old Dominion shipping software, and assist in email communication between admin support staff and sales team as needed
· Flag team lead to reorder supplies as necessary: boxes and packing materials, wax, sand/plaster, ribbon, etc.
· Keep personal error scrap levels below 10%
· Maintain an acceptable pace when cleaning, loading, unloading and QC’ing product as defined by Pace Levels Standards
· Participate in process improvement projects and initiatives
· Follow all company and department-specific PPE requirements
· Adhere to all Rookwood policies and procedures outlined in company handbook and addendums
