The Shiri Monkey paperweight was originally designed in 1928 by Rookwood artist Kataro Shirayamadani. Shirayamadani is notably one of the most celebrated decorators in Rookwood’s history, and brought a direct Japanese influence to Rookwood’s body of work.
This form was named for Kataro, whom was often nicknamed “Shiri” by his peers. Today Shirayamadani’s hand-carved pieces, like the Shiri Monkey, stand out as delicate and whimsical treasures.
