The Penrose Hex Series takes its name and its inspiration from the mathematical concept in M.C. Escher’s famous lithograph “Relativity” – the Penrose staircase. The staircase is a two-dimensional depiction of a staircase that has no true end.
The Penrose Hex Series tile was named to reflect the “step” between two tiles and the way the dimension in the tile moves up and down across an installation. Penrose Hex Ascending showcases a subtle lift in the surface of the tile, while Descending demonstrates a small dip. When paired together, these tiles make each installation in which they are used one to remember.
